Overview
The Mechanical Engineering Technician program will provide you with the ability and confidence to seek opportunities and provide support within the dynamic world of engineering, including in the automotive, energy generation, construction, and manufacturing sectors. Your future role may steer you towards a career in design, metal and non-metal fabrication including machining and 3D printing, or technical support. Students will have the opportunity to work in our modern facilities, including the Integrated Manufacturing Centre, to explore Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD/CAM), Computer Numerical Control (CNC), Electrical, Fluid Power, Precision Machining, and Measurement. Upon graduation, students are eligible for membership with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Domestic entry runs through Ontario's college application system: the minimum is an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or an equivalent Grade 12 diploma from another Canadian province, or Mature Student Status for applicants 19 or older who have not finished high school. On top of that general route this program requires Grade 12 English at the C or U level and Grade 12 mathematics at the C, M or U level; Grade 11 or 12 physics, drafting and technical mathematics are recommended preparation but not mandatory prerequisites. Applicants without a Canadian credential may instead demonstrate English proficiency to Durham College's institution-wide standard for certificate, diploma and graduate-certificate programs: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 88 overall with no section below 22, PTE Academic 53 overall with no section below 49, CAEL 60 with no section below 60, or Duolingo English Test 110 or higher.
