This research-based master's program in energy engineering at Polytechnique Montréal deepens technological and scientific knowledge in the field through a thesis built on original research. The program comprises 45 credits: up to 3 credits of lower-level (4000-series or below) coursework, 12 to 15 credits of graduate-level courses, and 30 credits for research and thesis writing. Before applying, candidates must secure a faculty member willing to supervise their research and are encouraged to contact professors in their area of interest ahead of submitting an application. Graduates receive the Maîtrise ès sciences appliquées (M.Sc.A.) degree. Coursework is delivered primarily during the day on campus at Polytechnique Montréal in Montreal, Quebec. The program suits holders of an engineering degree, or a related science degree judged relevant by the institution, who are seeking supervised research training in energy engineering as preparation for a research-oriented career or as a step toward doctoral study.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:2.75 / 4.0
Admission Requirements: To be admitted to a research master's program, applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in engineering or a relevant discipline, or a university degree of a scientific nature deemed relevant by Polytechnique Montréal, and must have a minimum cumulative average of 2.75/4.0 (or 3.0/4.3, or the recognized equivalent); candidates who do not meet this average may request a waiver by presenting a file demonstrating their aptitude for master's-level study (relevant professional experience, further studies since the university degree, etc.). Applicants to the research profile must also obtain the support of a professor who agrees to supervise their research; contacting professors working in the field of interest before applying is strongly recommended. Meeting these general conditions does not guarantee admission, since the application must also meet any particular conditions set by the program. A recognized language test result, in English or French, is mandatory for the application to be considered.
