Overview
SFU's Master of Applied Science in Sustainable Energy Engineering is a research-focused, thesis-based degree completed over about two years. Of the minimum 30 required units, 12 come from graduate coursework and the remaining 18 from the MASc thesis itself, and students form a supervisory committee -- their supervisor plus at least one further SFU faculty member, adjunct professor or research associate, with additional external members also permitted -- during their second term. Research training covers the harvesting, conversion, storage, distribution and management of energy and environmental resources, preparing graduates to design and deploy clean-energy technology. An optional industrial internship is available alongside the degree, recorded on the transcript without counting toward course requirements or GPA. Applicants need an undergraduate degree in a related engineering or science field along with evidence they can carry out original research, and must have an SFU faculty member willing to supervise their thesis before admission.
