Overview

This certificate centers on studio-based projects and building a portfolio of work in a chosen media. Coursework also provides instruction in art history, tracing developments from antiquity through the French Revolution and into the era of the First World War. Students build written and verbal communication skills and work within an emphasis on professionalism in a design workplace, preparing them to serve what arts employers and the communities around them require.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Domestic entry requires an OSSD with courses from the College (C), University (U), University/College (M) or Open (O) stream, or equivalent, or mature-applicant status; applicants without a diploma may qualify via the ACE Grade 12 Equivalency Certificate. Recommended, non-mandatory preparation includes Grade 12 English (C, U or O), Grade 11 or 12 Visual Arts, Grade 11 or 12 Music or Drama, and Grade 12 Media Arts. English proficiency for applicants whose first language is not English: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 79, PTE Academic 53 with no skill below 45, or CAEL 60 with no band below 50. Admitted students must complete a mandatory placement assessment for the WRIT course; the page states no portfolio or interview requirement for entry.
