This one-year Veterinary Assistant certificate program equips you with the skills and knowledge to thrive in diverse animal care settings, working with companion animals, exotic pets and even large animals. A Veterinary Assistant is an integral member of the veterinary team, with responsibilities ranging from general care and attention for animals to administration.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or mature-applicant status, with Grade 12 English (C or U), Grade 12 Math (C or U) or Grade 11 Math (C, U or M), and Grade 11 Biology (C or U); applicants may alternatively complete Fanshawe's Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Certificates and Diplomas. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet a test minimum, including IELTS Academic overall 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT overall 4.5 with no band below 4 (79 under the pre-2026 scale), PTE Academic 53, CAEL overall 60, Duolingo overall 105, or an equivalent Cambridge English or LanguageCert Academic score. Once admitted, students must complete a Professional Practice Health Form and provide proof of prophylactic rabies immunisation, which the program states is mandatory; additional vaccinations may also be required.
