Requirements

Admission Requirements: Fanshawe admits Child and Youth Care applicants who hold an OSSD, or equivalent, or who qualify as mature applicants with Grade 12 English (C or U); applicants short of this course are directed toward academic upgrading or Fanshawe's one-year Human Services Foundation preparatory program, completion of which at a 2.0 final cumulative GPA satisfies the admission requirements. The program page states this is a competitive program, with qualified applicants exceeding the seats available. English requirement per Fanshawe's institution-wide English Language Requirements table (same table cited on the program page): IELTS Academic overall 6.0/no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT overall 4.5/no section below 4 on the 2026 scale (79 on the pre-2026 scale); PTE Academic, CAEL, Duolingo, Cambridge English and LanguageCert are also listed. High-school courses in human behaviour, family studies, psychology and sociology, plus curiosity, compassion and community/volunteer experience, are recommended preparation. Where eligible applicants exceed available seats, Fanshawe ranks by preference for Ontario permanent residents, then by applications received by February 1st, then by strength against the admission requirements. Post-admission, students must provide a Standard First Aid/CPR certificate, evidence of good health, and a clear Police Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening.
