Overview
In this 12-week program you will learn about the operation and preventative maintenance of heavy construction equipment. This program is all about hands-on learning. You'll develop the skills you need using bulldozers, rubber-tired loaders, tractor loader backhoes, hydraulic excavators, rock trucks, skid steers and various other construction site equipment. What you will learn in the classroom will focus on the essentials to help you master your operating skills. Courses include personal, work site and equipment safety, earthmoving technology, equipment maintenance, and heavy equipment operating techniques.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with the majority of credits at Workplace (E) level including Grade 12 Workplace (E) English, or the majority of courses at College (C) or Open (O) level; Grade 12 C substitutes for a Grade 11 C requirement, and University (U) or Mixed (M) courses satisfy a College-level requirement. Applicants 19 or older without an OSSD may sit the Skillsmarker assessment, with additional testing or upgrading possibly required. No portfolio, interview or non-academic clearance is stated for this one-semester certificate. As the programme sets no language scores of its own, Fleming College's general English proficiency requirement applies: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 80 with no section below 20, PTE Academic 46, or Duolingo English Test 105.
