Overview
The Aircraft Structures Technician certificate is a one-year, full-time program delivered in-person at SAIT's Art Smith Aero Centre at Calgary International Airport, across two semesters of study. It combines theoretical instruction with hands-on, shop-based training in aircraft structures fundamentals, aviation materials, and sheet metal and composite repair and maintenance procedures used across the aviation industry. Coursework prepares students for work as an aircraft maintenance engineer (AME) 'S' structures technician, focused on the inspection, repair, and maintenance of aircraft structural components within aviation maintenance, repair, and overhaul settings. Training takes place on the Art Smith Aero Centre campus, giving students direct access to aircraft and aviation maintenance facilities. On completion, graduates receive a SAIT Aircraft Structures Technician certificate and are prepared to pursue aircraft structures technician roles in the aerospace sector.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants educated in Canada must demonstrate English language proficiency and complete the following courses or equivalents: at least 50% in Math 20-1 or Math 20-2, and at least 50% in English Language Arts 30-1 or 30-2; SAIT accepts high school course equivalents for applicants educated outside Alberta. Applicants educated outside of Canada must demonstrate English language proficiency and provide an international document assessment confirming they meet the program's admission requirements.
