The remaining course requirements in this program are eligible for Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR). Because students typically bring extensive experience working with children in play-based settings, they may be able to show they already meet a course's learning outcomes without sitting through direct instruction. Each PLAR-eligible course has its own assessment, which can take the form of a test, a portfolio, or an assignment, depending on the learning outcomes being measured. A successful PLAR attempt adds the earned grade to the student's official transcript; an unsuccessful one means registering for that course in a later semester. Courses that are PLAR eligible are still delivered face to face.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: This part-time advanced-standing route requires a minimum of six months' experience working directly with children in a play-based early-learning or child-care setting, documented in a resume and confirmed by a letter from the applicant's employer; admission follows a defined process of applying through OCAS, then submitting the resume and employer letter to Fleming's admissions office referencing the OCAS application number. The programme page states no English-proficiency test score; Fleming College's institution-wide tier for diploma and certificate programs applies: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall (no band below 5.5), TOEFL iBT 80, Duolingo 105, or PTE Academic 46. International applicants submit an equivalent secondary credential, certified with notarized English translations where needed, per Fleming's general admission requirements. Further Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) is required each semester at additional cost, and the program is not eligible for Fleming FastPass or transfer credit from other institutions. Intakes run in January, May and September.
