Georgian College's Honours Bachelor of Industrial Design is a four-year honours degree delivered on the Barrie campus and structured around three co-operative work terms integrated between academic semesters. The program applies a human-centred design approach to product, environment, and service development, moving students from foundational drawing and form studies into dedicated industrial design studios. Coursework covers ergonomics, materials, computer-aided design, interaction design, and emerging production technologies such as virtual and augmented reality and additive manufacturing, alongside business-oriented courses in marketing and entrepreneurship. A mandatory career-preparation course precedes the first of the three work-term placements, giving graduates paid industry experience before they finish the degree. Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with a minimum 65 percent average, Grade 12 U-level English and Mathematics, and a digital portfolio of five to seven original pieces -- drawings, models, or prototypes -- plus a short written statement of interest in the profession. The program suits students with strong visual and technical aptitude who want to work through a complete design cycle, from concept to finished product, and who are considering careers as product designers or design consultants across manufacturing, healthcare, and transportation sectors.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:65.00 / %
Admission Requirements: Georgian College's Industrial Design programme page asks for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or mature student status, with an overall average of at least 65 per cent across six Grade 12 U level courses. Within that average the page specifies Grade 12 U English at a minimum of 65 per cent and Grade 12 U Mathematics at a minimum of 60 per cent, and recommends a second Grade 12 university or university/college Mathematics course. No standardised English-language test score is published for this route. Alongside academic standing, applicants must submit a digital portfolio of five to seven original pieces of personal work, such as hand drawings, computer models or prototype photographs, plus a 200-word written statement of interest in and knowledge of the industrial design profession, sent to the program's portfolio inbox with the applicant's name, student number and OCAS number. The page currently states an intake suspension from Fall 2027 onward, so applicants should confirm live availability before applying.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: 1 February 2027 is the equal-consideration date for Georgian's highly competitive programs, which now covers Fall 2027, Winter 2028 and Summer 2028 entry, and later applications are assessed first-come, first-served while seats last; offers of admission for this 2026-2027 cycle must be accepted by 1 May 2027. Programs outside the highly competitive list carry no equal-consideration date and are assessed on a rolling basis year-round. International applicants apply directly through Georgian's own portal with no published closing date and are assessed on a rolling basis while seats remain, though Georgian warns a program open when applied to may close before assessment. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
