The Correctional Officer certificate prepares students to work in federal or provincial correctional facilities, supervising and interacting with incarcerated individuals. Delivered over 24 weeks on campus at the Atlantic Police Academy, the program develops skills in conflict de-escalation, inmate supervision, security procedures and report writing. Students complete mandatory on-the-job training at provincial or federal correctional facilities in Atlantic Canada and, apart from that training, are required to live in residence for the duration of the program. Graduates are prepared to work as correctional officers responsible for the safety, supervision and processing of offenders within a correctional setting.
