— it helps other students.
This one-year certificate program helps students explore career options and choose between further post-secondary study and direct entry into the workforce. Coursework combines career-focused courses with opportunities to meet people currently working in industry, alongside work-integrated learning placements that provide hands-on exposure to a chosen field. The program is designed to bridge the gap between high school and college, and students who have been away from formal education for some time are supported in building academic and workplace-readiness skills. Depending on the electives chosen, up to five credits may be transferable into other Holland College programs, giving graduates a head start if they continue to a certificate or diploma program. The program is delivered on campus, alternating between Holland College's Summerside Waterfront and Prince of Wales campuses depending on intake, with a September start. It suits students uncertain about their next step after high school who want structured support and real workplace exposure before committing to a specific trade or discipline.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The Pathways to College and Workplace Success page requires a Grade 12 diploma or equivalent (GED-equivalent accepted) at or above the general level, plus a resume covering work and volunteer experience. The program accepts mature-student applications. Because part of the program involves work-integrated learning placements, accepted students must submit a criminal record check and a vulnerable sector check before starting that portion of the program. English is the language of instruction: applicants whose first language is not English demonstrate proficiency with IELTS Academic 6.5 (no band below 6), TOEFL iBT 85, CAEL 60 (minimum 50 per band), PTE Academic 60, Duolingo English Test 120 (no section under 115) or Cambridge B2 First/C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency 176 (no band below 169), among other accepted tests; graduates of a Canadian high school who completed English 621 in P.E.I. (or its provincial equivalent) with at least 70%, or applicants with three consecutive years of full-time English-medium post-secondary study completed within two years of the program start, are exempt. The program takes a September intake, alternating between the Summerside Waterfront and Prince of Wales campuses.
