This one-year certificate program teaches students to take a mechanical blueprint and physically produce the part it describes, operating lathes, drill presses, vices, micrometers, and milling machines to create precise components from technical drawings. Training is hands-on and shop-based at the Summerside Waterfront Campus. Graduates accumulate 30 hours of apprenticeship time for each week of training and are prepared to write the apprenticeship year-one block exam, working toward Red Seal certification in the machinist trade. Graduates may also apply for entrance into the second year of the NBCC CNC Machining program to continue their studies. The program runs a September intake and combines classroom instruction with extensive practical work on precision machining equipment. It suits students seeking direct, hands-on entry into precision manufacturing and machining trades rather than a purely classroom-based introduction.
