The Pre-Employment Pipe Trades Certificate is a one-term certificate offered at Keyano College's Clearwater Campus that prepares students for entry-level work in the pipe trades. The program builds a foundation in trades-related science, mathematics, report writing and employability skills, alongside technical training in workplace safety and rigging, tools and materials, metal fabrication, and drawings and specifications. On completion, graduates hold the technical knowledge and skills of a first-year Steamfitter-Pipefitter, Gasfitter, Plumber, or Sprinkler System Installer apprentice, and may pursue an optional minimum 135-hour work placement with a regional employer, provided they complete the placement within one year of finishing the theory portion of the program. Graduates are eligible to continue into any of the four pipe trade apprenticeship programs once they become an indentured apprentice. The program totals 24.5 credits across five technical courses and four employability courses, with an optional work-placement course. A pass mark of at least 65% is required in each course to graduate.
