Trades - Apprenticeship in Steamfitter/Pipefitter Apprenticeship

Keyano College's Steamfitter/Pipefitter Apprenticeship is a four-year Alberta apprenticeship program leading to a Journeyperson Certificate and Advanced Diploma, with the option to challenge the Red Seal exam for interprovincial certification. Each year pairs eight weeks of classroom-based technical training with a minimum of 1,560 hours of paid, employer-based workplace training, preparing students to work on piping systems ranging from oil refineries and gas plants to hospitals and high-rises. Training covers pipe layout, fabrication, welding, and system installation, along with reading blueprints and specifications, measuring, cutting, threading, and bending pipe, joining and securing pipe sections and fittings, and testing systems for leaks. The program is delivered in person, combining institutional instruction with structured on-the-job apprenticeship training with an employer. Graduates who complete all required technical training periods and workplace hours, and pass the prescribed examinations, receive a Journeyperson Certificate as a Steamfitter/Pipefitter.
