Overview
The Process Operations Co-op Certificate is a two-year certificate offered at Keyano College's Clearwater Campus, preparing students for entry-level positions in mineral and hydrocarbon processing, primarily with major oil sands companies. Offered since 2001, the program trains students in Power Engineering and Process Operations; over two years students complete 4th Class Power Engineering, Process Operations, and 3rd Class Power Engineering (Part A) coursework. The program includes two co-op work terms, arranged with industry partners based on student academic achievement, Alberta Boiler Safety Association certification, and host requirements; work placements may be located outside the Wood Buffalo region and are not guaranteed. International students who wish to participate in the co-op terms must apply for a co-op work permit as well as a study permit. A pass mark of 65% in each course is required for program certification and eligibility to write Alberta Boiler Safety Association exams; work terms are graded pass/fail. Students must successfully complete Year 1 before continuing into Year 2.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Year 1: High school diploma with English 20-1 or English 20-2, Math 20-1 or Math 20-2, and Physics 20 or Science 20 (Alberta course only), OR a pass mark on all five Canadian General Educational Development (GED) tests. Year 2 entry: successful completion of 4th Class Part A and B theory courses from a recognized post-secondary institution, and proof of successful completion of a recognized post-secondary institution 200-hour Power Lab course. Applicants must also meet Keyano College's English Language Proficiency requirement (TOEFL iBT 80 with no score below 20, IELTS Academic 6.0, CAEL 60, or MELAB 80). A valid driver's license is required for the work practicum.
