Program details

Overview

The program prepares internationally educated nurses for professional nursing practice in Canada, renewing and enhancing previously acquired nursing knowledge and skills as the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals requires before licensure. Coursework addresses practice within the Canadian health care setting, identifying and addressing individual learning needs, meeting professional practice requirements, and building effective communication with patients and colleagues. Clinical placement sites span Lower Mainland hospitals from North Vancouver to Chilliwack.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: IMPORTANT: KPU accepts applications to this programme only from Canadian citizens and from permanent residents or landed immigrants of Canada. International applicants are not eligible. The Faculty requirement here is KPU's undergraduate English Proficiency Requirement, set out in the university's own admission requirements. On top of it this programme asks for: completion of an international registered-nursing education programme, verified by a credentialing agency approved by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives. If that nursing education finished more than five years before the term you are entering, you must additionally satisfy one of five routes: an Inspire Global assessment (formerly NCAS) whose Section 2 shows undemonstrated competency themes at 50 per cent or less; the same assessment showing 51 per cent or more undemonstrated themes, taken together with KPU's PNUR 9030 Nurse Ready course (the Evolve online component is not needed); a pass in the NCLEX-RN examination within the last five years; current registration as a Canadian licensed practical nurse; or at least 1,125 hours of employment as a registered nurse in the last five years. Completing PNUR 9030 on its own also satisfies this route. Newly admitted students must supply a valid Canadian CPR Basic Life Support or CPR Health Care Provider certificate that stays current through the programme, and a criminal record check cleared through the Criminal Records Review Program run by BC's Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, dated no more than six months before the programme begins. An Immunization Record Form reflecting BC's Practice Education Guidelines is also required; KPU's wording for this programme is that unvaccinated students may be unable to give care in some practice areas or situations, rather than being barred outright. This is a limited-intake programme, so meeting the requirements does not guarantee a seat. Continuing requires a cumulative GPA of 2.67, C+ in standard-graded required courses and MAS in mastery-graded ones.

Application Details

Start Date: The University Calendar lists this programme with Fall (September), Spring (January) and Summer (May) starts, the full three-term cycle KPU runs. Under the Senate-approved 2026-27 schedule Fall runs 8 September to 17 December 2026, Spring 6 January to 28 April 2027 and Summer 10 May to 24 August 2027.
Application Deadline: KPU accepts applications to this programme only from Canadian citizens and permanent residents / landed immigrants of Canada, so the international dates, fee and deposit KPU publishes for other programmes do not apply. KPU classifies this as a Limited Intake programme: the number of seats is capped, applications are assessed against one another, and meeting the published minimums does not guarantee admission. The University Calendar lists this programme with Fall (September), Spring (January) and Summer (May) starts, so only the windows below apply to it; KPU's institution-wide Limited Intake timetable also covers terms this programme does not admit into. FALL (SEPTEMBER) INTAKE: applications open on 1 October of the previous year and the Limited Intake deadline is 1 March, so the Fall 2027 window runs 1 October 2026 to 1 March 2027, with offers from November. SPRING (JANUARY) INTAKE: applications open 1 February and close 1 August, with offers from early April. SUMMER (MAY) INTAKE: applications open 1 June and close 1 December, with offers from early August. Some Limited Intake programmes close early when demand is high, and others extend the deadline when seats remain - the current extension list is at kpu.ca/admission/deadlines-extended. KPU notes that selected Limited Intake programmes may still consider applicants after the term's final application date (1 July for Fall, 1 November for Spring and 1 March for Summer). Applications open at 00:00 and close at 23:59 Pacific time. Applications go through EducationPlannerBC at apply.educationplannerbc.ca/kpu; the non-refundable application fee is CAD 40 and the confirmation deposit for a Limited Intake offer is CAD 500.
