Overview
Kwantlen Polytechnic University's Certificate of Completion in Graduate Nurse Qualifying is a 6-credit undergraduate credential in the Faculty of Health, delivered through online study combined with clinical practice. It is designed for internationally educated nurses who need additional preparation in maternal-child, pediatric, or mental health nursing to meet the registration requirements of the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Students complete one of three course-and-preceptorship options -- Mental Health, Maternal/Child, or Pediatric -- each pairing a theory course with a supervised clinical preceptorship. Before clinical placement, students must hold current Canadian CPR certification, a Canadian TB skin test or chest x-ray dated within two years, and an acceptable criminal record check, and must maintain current immunization records throughout. Applications are accepted only from Canadian citizens and permanent residents or landed immigrants of Canada. Graduates receive a Certificate of Completion in Graduate Nurse Qualifying, meeting BCCNM's stated educational gap requirement.

Admission Requirements: Applicants need a letter from the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals stating the need for a qualifying course in maternal-child, pediatric, or mental health nursing, plus the Faculty's Admission Requirements (KPU's undergraduate English Proficiency Requirement). Before clinical placement, applicants must hold valid Canadian CPR Basic Life Support or Health Care Provider certification, a Canadian TB skin test or chest x-ray dated within two years, and an acceptable Criminal Record Check through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General's Criminal Records Review Program; applicants who have lived outside Canada as an adult must also secure a Vulnerable Sector search from their country of origin. Applications are accepted only from Canadian citizens and permanent residents or landed immigrants of Canada.
