Trades - Apprenticeship in Landscape Horticulture: Apprenticeship

This apprenticeship program delivers the in-school technical training for apprentices working toward Red Seal certification as a Landscape Horticulturist, run at KPU's Langley campus. It is organized into four sequential six-week levels that must be taken in order, combining classroom and practical instruction in equipment operation, plant science, landscape construction, soil stewardship, and environmental management with employer-based on-the-job training. Apprentices must be actively registered with SkilledTradesBC and hold a valid Trade Worker Identification number, and may apply to SkilledTradesBC for recognition of prior work-based training hours; KPU reports completion of each level toward the apprentice's designation. On completing the full apprenticeship, graduates attain journeyperson status in a Red Seal trade recognized across Canada, supporting labour mobility between provinces. Intake is open. The program suits people with an existing employer sponsor, or work experience in a horticulture enterprise, who want hands-on outdoor training in living systems and possess the physical fitness the trade demands, including those working toward careers in municipal parks, botanical gardens, golf courses, landscape contracting, and arboriculture companies.
