Overview
The Pre-employment Automotive Service Technician program is a 16-week, face-to-face certificate delivered at Lakeland's Vermilion campus that prepares students for entry-level work in automotive service without requiring a sponsoring employer. Coursework covers vehicle maintenance, brake systems, electrical systems, steering and suspension, and shop safety and tools. The program ends with an 80-hour practicum placement that gives students hands-on experience and a chance to connect with the automotive industry. After completing classroom instruction, graduates may qualify to challenge the first-year automotive apprenticeship exam, giving them a head start toward a full apprenticeship. Unlike Lakeland's apprenticeship programs, students do not need to already have an automotive job to enrol.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must have high school coursework with a minimum of 50% in English 20-2, 50% in Math 20-3, and 50% in Science 10, or a pass mark in all five Canadian General Educational Development (GED) or Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) tests. Proof of English language proficiency is also required.
