— it helps other students.
The Pre-employment Welder program is a 16-week, face-to-face certificate that gives students job-ready welding skills without requiring a sponsoring employer to enrol. Coursework covers welding theory, gas metal arc welding, flux core arc welding, metal core arc welding, submerged arc welding, equipment setup, trades mathematics, and safety training. The program includes a 120-hour practicum placement that lets students apply their classroom learning on the job. It is offered on a rotating schedule between Lakeland's Vermilion campus in the fall and the Lloydminster County Energy Park site in the winter, giving graduates a foundation for entry into the welding trade or further apprenticeship.
