Overview

The Electromechanical Technician program is a 34-week, part-time certificate delivered fully online as distance education, leading to a George Brown College certificate. It provides an introduction to electronics and electromechanical systems, combining topics found in a typical electronics program, such as industrial control devices, DC and AC motors and control circuits, transformers, and analog and digital transducers, with mechanical-systems topics including industrial process control and PLCs. The 24-module curriculum uses text, animations, audio lectures, illustrations, review questions and more than 450 pre-built lab projects, with circuit theory integrated throughout with CircuitLogix Pro simulation software (2D and 3D). Students who have completed the Electronics Technician program are exempted from 18 modules, and credits may also apply toward the PLC Technician, PLC Technician II, Robotics Technician, EV Technician and Automation Technician programs. Enrolment is open year-round, with no fixed completion schedule; a Windows-compatible computer is required, since the simulation software does not run on macOS, Chromebook or Linux systems.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: The academic prerequisite for students entering the Electromechanical Technician program is an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (with credits at or above general level) or equivalent or mature student status. If you are 19 years or older and do not have a high school diploma, you may enrol as a mature student.
