NAIT's CNC Machinist Technician certificate is a one-year program covering conventional machining operations, including drill presses, lathes, milling machines, and grinding equipment, together with CNC programming, setup, and operation. Students receive introductory training in CAD/CAM software and in inspection and quality-control techniques used to verify precision and accuracy in manufacturing processes. Coursework covers interpretation of engineering drawings, CNC setup and programming, inspection of finished parts with precision measuring equipment, safe operation of cutting and noncutting hand tools, and equipment calibration and maintenance, working with materials such as metals and plastics. Graduates are prepared for machinist roles in machine shops and supply companies and may be eligible to challenge the first-year apprenticeship exam for NAIT's Machinist program, giving a route into the trades apprenticeship system.
