Overview
The Certificate in Mining Electromechanics is a 30-credit graduate-entry certificate at UQAT that specializes mining engineers in the mechanical systems and automation principles used in mineral extraction and processing. Graduates gain the competencies to design or modify specialized mining equipment and, depending on elective choices, can also work in instrumentation and process control. Required courses cover electrotechnology, mechanical laboratories, hydraulic systems and lubrication, industrial instrumentation, mechanical-system design, and the design and selection of mining equipment (ventilation, drainage, compressed-air, and hoist systems), culminating in a mining-electromechanics project course. Students choose six elective credits from courses in linear control, industrial automation, optimal and adaptive control, complex mechanism dynamics, industrial robot design, or engineering dynamics. Classified under the Applied Sciences sector, the certificate is intended for engineers who already hold an engineering degree and is also used by students from Polytechnique Montréal, McGill, and Université Laval completing a mining-electromechanics option at UQAT.
