Overview
Built for Parks and Recreation departments investing in staff development, this micro-credential equips municipal recreation professionals with critical thinking skills and knowledge to meet community needs and adapt to emerging trends and challenges. It supports the move into supervisory and management roles within a public-sector context by combining theoretical and practical insight on leading, serving and responding to community needs. Delivered in partnership with municipalities, it runs on-site at recreation facilities or through a hybrid model pairing classroom learning with online collaboration, designed to limit disruption to daily operations.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants to this micro-credential must meet one of Langara's standard entry pathways: successful completion of a BC secondary school program (Grade 12) or the equivalent, being at least 19 years of age by the first day of the first semester of attendance, or successful completion of an Adult Basic Education (ABE) or General Educational Development (GED) program. The program's own Admissions tab sets no English-language score, so applicants default to Langara's institution-wide English Language Proficiency baseline (Category 3): English Studies 12, English First Peoples 12, or Literary Studies 12 at 50%, or one of IELTS Academic 6.5, Duolingo English Test 110, TOEFL iBT 80 (Writing 20, Reading 20, Listening 18, Speaking 18), CAEL 60, PTE Academic 56, or four years of full-time study in an English-language school system. The micro-credential is limited enrolment, aimed at recreation professionals already working in municipal parks and recreation departments or moving into supervisory roles, so eligibility does not guarantee a seat.
