Overview
This diploma prepares students for careers in animation, visual effects, and game development. Delivered by Langara College's Continuing Studies division over 24 months of full-time study across six consecutive terms, the program has students work with industry-standard software and hardware under the mentorship of industry professionals and animation instructors in the college's computer labs. Coursework spans character design, drawing, modelling, environment design, texturing, rigging, lighting, rendering, compositing, game design, level design, and storyboarding, giving students a broad foundation across the animation, VFX, and gaming pipeline rather than a single specialization. The intensive term structure is intended to mirror the pace of a production studio, and graduates leave with a diploma along with a professional portfolio and demo reel to support job applications in the industry. Following a program quality-assurance review, Langara relaunched this diploma for the Fall 2025 intake under the name '3D Technologies for Film & Games'; the program continues at the same web address under the new title. It suits students seeking a structured, studio-style diploma pathway into 3D animation, visual effects, or game production roles rather than a short upskilling course.
