The Game Design and Programming Diploma at LaSalle College Vancouver is a 15-month, on-campus program focused on programming skills for game development, combined with portfolio-building project work. Coursework progresses from introductory game design, computer programming, and level design, through object-oriented programming in C++ and C#, digital imaging, and mini-game prototyping, to 2D game programming, programming for game engines, algorithms and data patterns, and mobile game programming. Students train with industry-standard tools including Microsoft Visual Studio, Unreal Engine, Unity Engine, GitHub, SQL, Adobe Photoshop, and Maya, working from workstations and a Virtual Reality Suite. The curriculum integrates programming with game design principles to prepare students for technical roles in game development studios, and graduates complete a portfolio demonstrating both design and programming competencies. The program is not eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
