The PhD in Biological and Biomedical Engineering is offered jointly by the Department of Bioengineering in the Faculty of Engineering and the Department of Biomedical Engineering in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The program provides advanced training in applying engineering and natural-science methods, technologies, and devices to problems in biology, medicine, and the life sciences, with students focusing on a chosen area while integrating quantitative and engineering tools. Faculty research spans artificial cells and organs, bioinformatics and computational biology, biological materials and mechanics, biomedical imaging and microscopy, biomedical modelling, sensors, diagnostics and therapeutics, biomedical signals and systems, cellular and molecular engineering, bioprocess engineering, and micro- and nano-bioengineering. Admitted students are guaranteed funding for four years. Graduates pursue careers in academia, industry, hospitals, and government. Admission is in the Fall term.

Minimum GPA:3.30 / 4.0
Admission Requirements: Applicants must already hold a research-based master's degree in Biological and Biomedical Engineering or a related field, with coursework equivalent to McGill's Biological and Biomedical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering master's program; students lacking prerequisites may be admitted on condition of completing the missing background. A cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 out of 4.0 (or equivalent) is required in both the master's and undergraduate programs. English-language proficiency is required, with a minimum TOEFL score of 100 or IELTS score of 7.0.
