Human Genetics (M.Sc.)

The Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Human Genetics is a thesis-based, research-intensive program offered by the Department of Human Genetics in McGill University's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. It may also be taken with a Bioethics option covering the conceptual and practical aspects of bioethics. Research areas include cancer genetics, cytogenetics, reproductive biology, neurogenetics, and the genomic and genetic basis of human disease. Faculty members hold cross-appointments in departments including Biochemistry, Biology, Cardiology, Medicine, Microbiology, Immunology, Neurology, Pathology, Pediatrics, Pharmacology, and Psychiatry, and conduct research through the McGill University Health Centre, the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital, the McGill Life Sciences Complex, the McGill University and Genome Quebec Innovation Centre, the Biomedical Ethics Unit, and the Centre for Genomics and Policy. The program develops skills in critical thinking, literature synthesis, and scientific communication. Admission requires an eligible bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.2 out of 4.0, plus English-language proficiency. The program admits students in the Fall term.
