The PhD in Biology is offered by the Department of Biology in the Faculty of Science and is a research-intensive doctoral program that develops research design, original thinking and scientific communication skills for careers in academia or industry. Students choose a project within one of three research areas: Conservation, Ecology, Evolution and Behaviour; Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology; or Neurobiology and Behaviour, and may also pursue a Neotropical Environment option based in Latin America. Students have access to research infrastructure in the Stewart Biology Building and Bellini Life Science Complex, as well as field facilities including the Gault Nature Reserve and the McGill Subarctic Research Station. Admission requires an eligible bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, along with proof of English-language proficiency. The program admits students for both the Fall and Winter terms.
