The Doctor of Philosophy in Human Genetics is offered by the Department of Human Genetics in the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences. The research-intensive program covers genomics, epigenetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, precision medicine, and genetic engineering, with departmental research spanning cancer genetics, cytogenetics, reproductive biology, and neurogenetics. Faculty members hold cross-appointments across Science and Medicine departments, including Biochemistry, Biology, Cardiology, Microbiology, Immunology, Neurology, Pathology, Pediatrics, Pharmacology, and Psychiatry, and are based at McGill-affiliated teaching hospitals and research sites such as the McGill University Health Centre, the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital, the McGill Life Sciences Complex, the McGill University and Genome Quebec Innovation Centre, the Biomedical Ethics Unit, and the Centre for Genomics and Policy. Admitted students are guaranteed financial support. The program develops literature synthesis, critical thinking, and academic writing skills for careers in academia or industry, and admits students in the Fall, Winter, and Summer terms.
