The Biomedical Engineering PhD at McMaster is delivered jointly by the Faculties of Engineering and Health Sciences, linking McMaster's existing expertise in medical sciences and engineering across current and emerging areas of molecular, medical, and bioengineering research. Research is organized around three areas: biomaterials and tissue engineering, imaging, and biomedical technology. Admission normally requires a Master of Science, Master of Applied Science, or equivalent degree in a related field. The program is thesis-based and normally takes four years of full-time study, culminating in an original research dissertation supervised by faculty from both participating faculties. McMaster admits students for September, January, and May starts, with separate application deadlines set for domestic and international applicants each term. The degree prepares graduates for research and development careers spanning engineering and health sciences, including medical device design, imaging, and tissue engineering.
