Hons in Medical Radiation Sciences

Medical Radiation Sciences leads to an Honours Bachelor of Medical Radiation Sciences degree, awarded concurrently with an Ontario College Advanced Diploma from Mohawk College, through a four-year program delivered jointly by McMaster University and Mohawk College. The curriculum covers the use of ionizing radiation, such as X-rays and gamma rays, and non-ionizing radiation, such as magnetic fields and ultrasound, for diagnostic imaging and patient treatment. A common first year is followed by selection of one of three specializations: Radiation Therapy, Radiography, or Ultrasonography. Clinical learning runs throughout the program, with placements at healthcare facilities across Ontario, supplemented by access to the Mohawk-McMaster Institute for Applied Health Sciences, which houses imaging labs equipped with CT scanners, ultrasound units, mammography and radiography equipment, and patient-care simulation facilities. The program suits students interested in hands-on, patient-facing healthcare careers in diagnostic imaging or radiation therapy rather than medicine or nursing routes, with graduates typically working as technologists in hospitals, diagnostic imaging centres, or physicians' offices. It is delivered across McMaster University's Hamilton campus and Mohawk College.
