Biology (MSc)

The MSc in Biology is a thesis-based graduate program that develops research and scientific communication skills alongside technical and theoretical foundations for science-related careers. Students choose a research focus from seven areas: bioinformatics, cell and developmental biology, ecology and evolution, environmental physiology, genetics and molecular biology, microbiology and plant biology, and radiation biology. Applicants typically hold an Honours Bachelor of Science degree. The program is completed on a full-time basis with a nominal length of two years, combining original supervised research culminating in a thesis with required graduate coursework. Admission is offered for the September, January and May terms, though international applicants are considered for the September start only. The program is administered by McMaster University's Department of Biology and provides access to faculty research groups and shared research facilities across the department's areas of specialization.
