The Automotive Service Technician program is a Skilled Trades Ontario apprenticeship whose in-school training component is delivered at Mohawk College. Registered apprentices complete 720 hours of in-class instruction at the college, combined with 6,500 hours of on-the-job training with a sponsoring employer, for a total of 7,220 hours. In-school training covers vehicle maintenance and mechanical repair across engines, running gear, chassis, electrical and fuel systems, alongside diagnostic testing procedures. The curriculum builds theoretical knowledge and practical workmanship for servicing increasingly complex, technology-integrated vehicles, with instruction delivered by experienced, licensed journeypersons across sequential training levels leading toward the Certificate of Qualification examination. Graduates receive a Mohawk College Certificate, with the credential eligible for an Ontario College Certificate. Apprentices must complete registration and level enrolment through the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development in coordination with Skilled Trades Ontario before beginning in-school training blocks at the college.
