Overview

The General Machinist program is a Skilled Trades Ontario apprenticeship whose in-school training component is delivered at Mohawk College's Stoney Creek Campus for Skilled Trades. Registered apprentices complete 720 hours of in-class instruction, combined with 7,280 hours of on-the-job training with a sponsoring employer, for a total of 8,000 hours. Coursework covers creating precision parts to tolerances of .001 inch / .01 mm using machine tools including drill presses, grinders, saws, and manual and CNC mills and lathes, alongside metrology, precision measuring instruments, engineering drawing interpretation, and CNC programming with Mastercam on three- and four-axis machines. In-school training is organized into Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced levels, concluding with preparation for the Certificate of Qualification examination.
