Trades - Apprenticeship in Instrumentation and Control Technician

The Instrumentation and Control Technician program is a Skilled Trades Ontario apprenticeship whose in-school training component is delivered at Mohawk College's Stoney Creek Campus for Skilled Trades. Registered apprentices complete 720 hours of in-class instruction, combined with 7,280 hours of on-the-job training with a sponsoring employer, for a total of 8,000 hours. Coursework covers consulting technical manuals and reading and interpreting circuit diagrams, blueprints, and schematics for industrial instrumentation and control systems, along with inspecting and testing instruments, writing maintenance reports, repairing components, calibrating instruments, and performing preventative maintenance on industrial control systems. The program follows an earn-while-you-learn model combining paid on-the-job work experience with in-school training blocks. Graduates receive a Mohawk College Certificate, eligible for an Ontario College Certificate, and progress toward the Certificate of Qualification examination through Skilled Trades Ontario.
