Overview

The Master of Education and Master of Arts in Education programs in Literacy Education prepare educators to respond confidently and effectively to the varied and complex demands of fostering literacy learning across schools and community settings. The programs combine theoretical understandings of current research and issues in literacy education with an exploration of their implications for practice. Both degrees can be completed full-time or part-time, and the Master of Education is also available at some off-campus locations. Core requirements for both routes include foundational literacy-theory courses (GLIT 6727 and 6728) alongside literacy electives; the Master of Education route requires 5.0 units of coursework in total, while the Master of Arts in Education route requires 4.0 units of coursework, including a research-methods course, plus a 1.0-unit thesis; some students may need to complete additional prerequisite courses.

Admission Requirements: Minimum requirements for admission are a bachelor's degree or its equivalent and related experience, with prior learning recognized under the university's policy on recognizing prior learning. A minimum overall average of B (GPA 3.0) is normally required for admission.
