Overview

The PhD in Educational Studies at Mount Saint Vincent University is delivered through the Nova Scotia Inter-University Doctoral Program in Educational Studies, a joint doctorate offered with Acadia University and St. Francis Xavier University. The program combines an intensive, on-site summer institute with interactive, web-enabled courses, a comprehensive scholarly portfolio, and a doctoral dissertation, drawing on faculty from all three participating universities. It typically takes four to six years to complete. Applicants are expected to arrive with a clearly conceptualized research topic within one of the program's interrelated educational-studies themes, and those without a completed graduate thesis submit a qualifying research paper to demonstrate their research competence before admission. Graduates are positioned for leadership roles in academic and professional organizations connected to education. The program suits experienced educators and researchers across Atlantic Canada seeking a collaborative, research-intensive doctorate that blends a shared summer residency with web-based coursework throughout the rest of the year.
