Overview

Expand your opportunities in the health care field and make a difference in the lives of seniors. Learn to plan and implement supervised activities to promote active lifestyles for older adults with cognitive and physical impairments. You'll also gain hands-on experience and connect with future employers with supervised practicum experience.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: This certificate is open to domestic applicants only. Admission requires an existing Health Care Assistant (HCA) certificate, a Home Support/Resident Care Attendant (HS/RCA) certificate, or an equivalent credential such as LPN, RN, or a Human Services Educational Assistant/Community Support certificate; no academic grades or English-language test scores are set. Before coursework begins, students must obtain a current CPR-C certificate and a Food Safe Level 1 certificate. The five-course program must be completed entirely within the same term, with a minimum of C+ in each course and successful completion of both practicum experiences. Three intakes run each year, in September, January, and May.

Application Deadline: This is a limited-entry program at NIC: for the 2026/27 cycle the application deadline is the last Monday of August for a September start, the third Friday of December for a January start, or five days before the start date for a mid-term intake; seats go by date of a complete, qualifying application.
