Advanced Plumbing Technology is a two-year diploma offering a direct pathway into plumbing trades training without first registering as an apprentice, delivered in a hybrid format at NAIT's Patricia campus. The program combines theory with hands-on training in installation, repair and mechanical system maintenance, and introduces newer technologies such as water recycling and reuse, solar and geothermal heating systems, and water conservation. Graduates are prepared for plumbing and gasfitting careers across the commercial, residential and industrial sectors. Two entry pathways are available: a Fall Term 1 start using standard high school course requirements, or a Winter Term 2 start reserved for select Edmonton Catholic School Division graduates who receive advanced-standing credit for several Term 1 courses, including Term 1 mathematics and plumbing fundamentals coursework.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry to the Fall term requires Grade 11 Language Arts (English 20-2), Grade 11 Mathematics (Math 20-2, Math 20-3 or Applied Math 20) and Grade 10 Science (Science 10), plus NAIT's institution-wide English Language Proficiency requirement (IELTS Academic 6.0 in each section, TOEFL iBT 4.0 overall with 4.0 in each section, PTE Academic 58, or Duolingo 115 overall with no sub-score under 100, among other listed tests); NAIT's English, Math or Chemistry Academic Upgrading Placement Tests may substitute. Entry to the Winter term is limited to graduates of the Edmonton Catholic School Division's Pipe Trades 15 and 25 courses at Archbishop O'Leary Catholic High School, who receive advanced-standing credit for five Term 1 courses. Alternative entry is also available to holders of a Canadian Journeyperson Certificate in an approved trade, or through 24 post-secondary credits at a 2.0 admission GPA.
