Overview

The Bookkeeping Assistant Certificate builds core accounting competencies for entry-level roles in financial services. Students gain practical skills in bookkeeping, payroll administration, and industry-standard accounting software, supported by training in spreadsheets for financial analysis and reporting, alongside complementary administrative skills such as word processing, keyboarding, and Microsoft Office proficiency. The program also develops the professional and interpersonal skills required in today's workplace. The credential requires a minimum of 33 credits (510 hours) and includes a two-week practicum placement for applying accounting and administrative skills in a real-world office environment. It is offered at the Dawson Creek and Fort St. John campuses and online, with full-time and part-time study options.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Domestic students, and students from countries that practice Standard Written English, must have official transcripts showing one of English 12, English Literature 12, English First Peoples 12, ENGL 050, or ENGL 099 with a 'C' grade or higher, any university-level English course with a 'C' grade or higher, or graduation from the Office Administration - Office Assistant Certificate; applicants who do not meet this must complete the NLC Writing Assessment. International students, and domestic students educated in French or another language, must instead meet NLC's general academic English-language proficiency requirement (Appendix A).
