The Office Assistant Certificate prepares students for entry-level roles in business, government, and industry, with an emphasis on AI competencies for the modern workplace. Students learn to use AI-powered tools and applications to enhance productivity, streamline administrative tasks, and support data-informed decision-making, alongside core administrative skills such as word processing, keyboarding, spreadsheet use, and current Microsoft Office applications. The program also covers office procedures and soft skills such as communication, adaptability, and professionalism. The credential requires a minimum of 16 credits (250 hours) and includes a one-week practicum placement for applying administrative and AI skills in an office setting. It is offered at the Dawson Creek and Fort St. John campuses and online, with full-time and part-time study options.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants whose first language is English must have completed any BC Ministry-approved English Language Arts 11 course, ENGL 040, or higher (or equivalent). Applicants whose first language is not English must score IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 6.0. Applicants who graduated from a Philippine post-secondary institution may instead meet the requirement with a four-year Bachelor's degree that included a baccalaureate-level English course passed with a grade of 'C', or with IELTS Academic 6.0. Applicants should have basic familiarity with computers and a minimum typing speed of 15 wpm, sufficient to meet the program's 45 wpm completion requirement.
