Program details
Overview
The Parts Technician Apprenticeship at Northwestern Polytechnic trains registered apprentices for work ordering, warehousing, controlling inventory, and selling parts in warehouse or industrial facilities. Duties covered include dispensing parts inventories and stock handling, identifying and cataloguing parts and assemblies, and ordering, receiving, inspecting, sorting, pricing, and selling parts to customers and other tradespeople. The program combines employer-sponsored on-the-job training with three blocks of in-class technical instruction delivered on campus in Grande Prairie: the first and third periods each run six weeks, and the second period runs eight weeks. Apprentices alternate periods of paid workplace employment with classroom instruction, progressing through all three technical periods and the required on-the-job hours toward Alberta's Parts Technician journeyperson certification through Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.
