The Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Apprenticeship at Northwestern Polytechnic trains registered apprentices to install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment used in factories, production plants, and recreational facilities, working with pumps, gearboxes, bearings, and conveyor systems. Coursework covers reading schematic drawings, following documented work procedures, and performing hands-on repair, alignment, and maintenance of industrial machinery, drive systems, and mechanical components. The program combines employer-sponsored on-the-job training with four blocks of in-class technical instruction delivered on campus in Grande Prairie, each running eight weeks. Apprentices alternate periods of paid workplace employment with classroom instruction, progressing through all four technical periods and the required on-the-job hours toward certification as a journeyperson Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) through Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.
