Esthetics and Spa Therapies at Nova Scotia Community College is a two-year diploma covering all aspects of the esthetics profession in a therapeutic environment, delivered at the Burridge Campus. Training covers artificial nails, body care, diabetic and advanced foot care, hair removal, lash lifts, nail care and skin care using current ingredients, equipment and technologies. Students complete 1,500 hours of combined theory and practical instruction, beginning practical training on classmates before progressing to spa clientele. A mandatory field experience placement of about five weeks, roughly 100 hours, gives students exposure outside the classroom. First Aid/CPR certification and up-to-date immunizations are required for graduation, along with a portfolio of completed work. Graduates must pass a licensing exam through the Cosmetology Association of Nova Scotia to work as a licensed esthetician, and the program prepares students for careers in spas, salons and wellness settings.
