Overview
Geomatics Engineering Technology at Nova Scotia Community College is a one-year diploma at the Centre of Geographic Sciences (COGS) that builds on foundational surveying training with advanced geomatics technology. Students spend roughly half of class time in the field, using drones, LiDAR scanners, GPS/GNSS systems, robotic total stations, GIS and CAD software alongside industry-standard survey techniques. Coursework covers legal, engineering and construction surveying, boundary determination, utility location and roadway design, along with more advanced concepts including geodesy, photogrammetry and geospatial data management. The program builds on a Survey Technician certificate or equivalent training and experience, extending existing surveying skills into higher-level geomatics practice. Small class sizes support hands-on instruction, though the credential is not eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit.
