Overview
Building Engineering Technology (Génie du bâtiment) is a three-year technical diploma focused on the mechanical systems that operate inside a building: heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and plumbing. From the first year, students study all eight disciplines of building mechanics -- plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, controls, energy efficiency, and fire protection -- and learn to design, prepare plans and specifications for, and control these systems. Graduates are responsible for the ongoing maintenance and proper functioning of building mechanical systems as building engineering technicians. A DEP-DEC bridging pathway allows holders of a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) in refrigeration to enter with reduced prerequisites. The program leads to a Diploma of College Studies (DEC) and prepares graduates for roles designing, installing, and maintaining building mechanical and energy systems.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: For diplomas issued after June 2010, applicants must have completed Secondary 4 mathematics (Technico-sciences or Sciences naturelles sequence) and Secondary 4 Science et technologie de l'environnement or Sciences et environnement; for earlier diplomas, Mathématique 436 and Sciences physiques 436 are required. Holders of a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) in refrigeration may also be admitted via a DEP-DEC bridging pathway, subject to the same mathematics and science requirements.
