Overview
IT Database Administration is a two-year diploma program covering the identification, organization, analysis and storage of organizational data, with a focus on big data, cloud deployment and data security. Students develop database management skills, including writing data governance policies that guide the configuration of data management systems to ensure quality, availability, recoverability, scalability and security. Coursework uses current industry tools to analyze, manipulate and administer database structures and infrastructure, with an emphasis on translating business needs into technical solutions through applied learning. Students have opportunities to attend information and communications technology conferences, workshops and special interest groups, and can pursue vendor-specific certifications. A mandatory field experience placement, typically about five weeks and unpaid, provides workplace exposure, and a co-op work term of at least 12 weeks (420 hours) is available between the first and second year. Applicants may qualify for the Digital Nova Scotia TechQuity Award. International graduates are eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit.
