Overview

Natural Resources Environmental Technology at Nova Scotia Community College is a two-year diploma program that prepares students for careers in the environmental and natural resources sector. Coursework combines classroom study with a considerable amount of outdoor lab work, building toward an integrated resource management plan developed from start to finish. The program is recognized by the Canadian Institute of Forestry, with graduates eligible for the CIF Silver Ring, and is accredited by the Environmental Careers Organization of Canada. A mandatory field experience of about five weeks, typically unpaid, gives students practical exposure outside the classroom, and the program is eligible for a cooperative education placement between year one and two, offering paid full-time employment of at least 12 weeks and 420 hours. Because much of the training occurs outdoors, applicants should be in good physical condition and prepared to work in varying weather conditions. Admission requires a high school diploma or equivalent; international applicants face country-specific diploma equivalency and English proficiency requirements.
